Spot you in Dalmatia
Writing, heritage, and culture have always been my “things,” so getting the chance to bring them together – with my love of proofreading, fact-checking, and typo-spotting – was a dream come true.
Uptown, the magazine of the Uptown Business Association, sits right behind my club, the Dalmatian Cultural Society, and is delivered to homes across central Auckland. It may be a free publication, but with a circulation of 20,000, it’s arguably the largest-distributed magazine in the city – and 20,000 is still 20,000!
When the magazine approached the club for a story about our community and culture, I jumped at the chance to write it. The result was an insider’s guide titled Spot You in Dalmatia, published in the October 2025 issue. At the same time, I stepped into the role of subeditor, happily indulging the apostrophe-police side of my personality by proofreading, sense-checking, and fine-tuning every story in the issue.
